Today, the Dublin government stands completely exposed. On one side, it normalises the service of 75 citizens in the Israeli Defence Forces during the genocide in Gaza—terrorists dressed up as soldiers, welcomed home without consequence. On the other, it prepares to deport our comrade, an anti-imperialist revolutionary, back to Turkey, a state that has placed him on an Interpol wanted list for his membership in the Communist Party of Turkey Marxist Leninist (TKPML). One rule exists for those who serve Zionist interests and empire, and another for those who fight it. This is the reality of justice in the 26-county regime.
While mainstream historians claim the Red Scare was a phenomenon of the McCarthy era, reality shows that it never went away. Ireland remains a hotbed for anti-Communism, despite the erosion of the Church’s power, which was seen as the main institution of anti-Communism.
The repression of Communists through bogus terror mechanisms is essential today for the maintenance of imperialist stability and highlights the hollowness of the claims to freedom of expression and speech in bourgeois democracies.
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) has correctly exposed the fundamental truth. The recent wave of repression in Turkey “once again exposes the EU, NATO and the US, which have made the Erdoğan government a strategic partner and a ‘guardian’ of their interests in the region.” The arrests of Communists and socialist comrades are a feature of a cruel system that subordinates democratic rights to Zionist-controlled imperialist interests. Since then, the repression has only intensified.
In July 2026, Turkish police arrested hundreds of anti-NATO protesters in Ankara and Istanbul, using tear gas against peaceful demonstrators carrying party flags and chanting “Murderer NATO, get out of the country.” The mass detainment of anti-NATO protestors at the recent NATO summit in July 2026 shows clearly what Erdoğan thinks of dissent.
Jim O’Callaghan’s solution of getting rid of our comrade who has been in Ireland since 2021 and returning him to a violent regime from which he escaped over 20 years ago reveals the depth of EU hypocrisy. The Euro-Atlantic powers have long presented themselves as guardians of democratic principles. Yet when Erdogan’s AKP government arrests Communists and shuts down democratic space, they remain silent, insisting Turkey is a “safe country” for our comrade.

Anyone can see that this is not a genuine security inquiry. It is an ideological litmus test, designed to filter out those who refuse to bow to the Zionist consensus. To ask a revolutionary fleeing state repression whether they support resistance against genocide is to expose the Free State’s true function not as an arbiter of justice, but as a gatekeeper for empire. Ireland is not neutral. Ireland is not independent. Ireland is not a republic. Ireland is a vassal state. Sin é.
The IPO’s function, in this question, is simply to establish, monitor, police and control political conscience.
Given Turkey’s strategic importance to NATO, the EU, and the US, the Dublin government and the EU clearly want to stay on the right side of Ankara. Sami’s deportation is not really about Turkey being safe or not. It is a NATO deal struck between the EU empire and Turkey. The asylum system is only a mechanism for vetting political loyalty, not for offering protection.
This is the essence of imperialist double standards. Turkey occupies 40% of Cyprus, disputes the sovereign rights of Greece, and represses its own people, yet remains a “strategic partner” because it serves Western interests in the region. As the KKE has exposed, the Euro-Atlantic powers “openly try to exploit Erdoğan’s neo-Ottomanism by making Turkey their strategic partner” sometimes as an “indispensable asset for the ‘European defence strategy,’” sometimes as a “counterbalance” to Russian interests. The repression of Communists is the price the bourgeoisie is willing to pay for imperialist stability.
Sami is an anti-NATO revolutionary facing deportation from Ireland. He is a political prisoner in waiting. Cabined, cribbed, confined for 5 years while the Free State deliberately left him in limbo, to try to isolate, vilify, and erase him. Because they did not succeed, he now needs to be gotten rid of. His organisation, that he built from the ground, is proving too much of a thorn in the side for the Zionists.
So let’s look at ‘safe’ Turkey. Turkey has systematically abused the Interpol system to pursue political opponents across borders. A classified memo from Turkey’s Security General Directorate revealed officials are instructed to “omit any reference to terrorism or the US funded Gülen-affiliation in extradition requests, focusing instead on seemingly lesser infractions” to bypass Interpol’s political screening safeguards. (Gülen is a US-supported organisation, despite Ankara’s claims that it is a terrorist group; the West’s position on this is a matter of strategic convenience, not principle.) Turkey repackages political persecution as ordinary crimes such as “data breaches” or “financial offenses” to secure Red Notices against exiled dissidents.
Since 2016, Turkey has requested 3,579 Red Notices and filed 2,364 extradition requests, largely targeting political opponents of the Erdogan regime. Even the British establishment’s Joint Committee on Human Rights has cited Turkey among the most frequent abusers of the notice system. Yet Interpol’s Secretary General refuses to address the issue, claiming the organisation has “complete and solid” safeguards while declining to elaborate on Turkey’s abuse of the system.
By deporting this revolutionary, the Free State becomes an active participant in this pro-NATO regime of transnational repression. The same Free State that refuses to prosecute 75 IDF Irish citizens for serving in a genocidal army is now preparing to hand a Communist activist over to a regime that has systematically targeted socialists and Communists. This is not “immigration enforcement” but political persecution by proxy.
The EU’s response to Turkey’s repression has been one of calculated silence, punctuated by meaningless parliamentary reports that carry no weight. This exposes the EU for what it is: an imperialist club, managed by the US. They subordinate all democratic principles to strategic Zionist interests. As an EU member state, “Ireland” is complicit in this system.
Anti-NATO organisations and demonstrators in Turkey have called on “all citizens who refuse to bow down” to join the protests against these unjust arrests. The Party of Labour of Austria has declared its solidarity, condemning the AKP’s “broader strategy…to curtail political space and undermine the fundamental democratic right of people in Turkey to participate in politics.” The Greek Communist Party has demanded “an end to the repression and persecution and the release of those arrested.”
Where is Ireland’s solidarity? Where is the voice of the self-identified left? Where are the Socialist Lawyers? The revolutionary asylum seeker must be granted protection immediately. O’Callaghan must refuse to be a deportation agent for the Erdogan regime. And the Irish people must recognise that the same imperialist system that normalises genocide in Gaza is the system that criminalises those who fight against it.
Sami is not a criminal. He is a hero. Our fear is that, like all revolutionaries, his contribution, his significance, and importance to the struggle may only come to light when it is too late.
